Cherry Almond Danish Ring

Ingredients:

Base:
2  loaves frozen sweet bread dough - thawed
Filling:
1  can (21 oz.) Comstock® or Wilderness® Cherry Pie Filling
1  cup chopped almonds
1  (8 oz.) package cream cheese - softened to room temperature
1  tsp. almond extract
1/2 cup powdered sugar
Topping:
1  cup sifted powdered sugar
1  tsp. almond extract
1  Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. water
1/2 cup chopped almond

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. In a mixer bowl cream together 8 oz. cream cheese, 1 cup chopped almonds; 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon almond extract and set aside.
2. Roll out the thawed bread dough into a 15 x 10 inch rectangle. Spread 1/2 of the cream cheese mixture over the dough. Then spread 1/2 can of the COMSTOCK® or WILDERNESS® Cherry Pie Filling over the cream cheese.
3. Starting at the edge of the long side, carefully start rolling dough into a log shape. Roll ends under and pinch all the seams. On a parchment lined pan, place the dough log seam side down and form into a circle shape around a small jar to maintain the hole in the center.
4. Let rise in a warm place for approx. 1 hour, or until double in size.
5. Remove jar in center and bake for 20 - 25 minutes, until golden brown and the bread feels done. Cool bread for 1 hour.
6. In a small bowl add 1 cup sifted powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon almond extract, and 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon water. Stir until well blended. Drizzle over cooled bread, and sprinkle with 1/2 cup chopped almonds.

Makes 2 Danish Rings, each 4 -8 servings
