The scrap chips and snacks products that are picked out from inspection tables at Snyder are sold for animal feed.
How Many Potatoes are Stored in Your House?
The potato storage capacity at Snyder is 8.5 million pounds. With optimum conditions, potatoes can be stored for up to 7 months, although three months is usually the maximum.

That's a Lot of Potatoes...
About 55 million pounds of potatoes are used annually. That's about 12 acres of harvested potatoes per day. More than half of the potatoes come from counties within 25 miles of the plant. The balance in winter comes from Florida, Virginia and the Carolinas.
Imagine Our Grocery Bill!
Snyder uses approximately
- 8 million lbs. of oil a year
- 200,000 lbs. of salt per year
- 2,000,000 lbs. of corn meal per year
- 1,000,000 lbs. of popcorn per year
- 700,000 lbs. of cheese per year
- 700,000 lbs. of seasonings per year
No Lard = No Cholesterol
Snyder's chips have 0% cholesterol because they are fried in vegetable oil and peanut oil and not in animal fat (lard).
Potato Chips and the Salt of the Earth
Less than 1/10th of a teaspoon of salt is on 1 oz. of chips. The salt is on the surface of the chip and therefore gives a saltier taste to it.
